Hong Kong's Secretary for Treasury, Mr Hui Ching-yu, held bilateral talks with representatives of Australia, Peru and Brunei on October 21 to actively expand Hong Kong's international tax agreement network and financial cooperation space.
In talks with representatives of Australia and Peru, Xu Zhengyu expressed Hong Kong's vision of actively promoting the signing of a comprehensive Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (CDTA), and pointed out that the agreement would help enhance tax certainty for cross-border investments, avoid double taxation, and create more favorable conditions for bilateral economic and trade exchanges. At the same time, he also introduced Hong Kong's latest financial developments and policy measures to the two sides.
During the meeting with Brunei's Second Minister of Finance, the two sides had in-depth exchanges on gold market cooperation, studying how to make good use of Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international financial center and improve financial infrastructure, promote cooperation between the two places in the gold and commodity markets, and jointly explore new industrial opportunities.
In addition, Hong Kong Inland Revenue Director Chen Shiwei and Hong Kong Deputy Secretary for Treasury (Treasury) Lai Yat-ching also held bilateral talks with Chilean representatives to exchange views on promoting the signing of the CDTA.
The Hong Kong Treasury Department said that the Hong Kong Government will continue to play the role of Hong Kong as a “super contact” and “super value-added person” to open up wider development space for Hong Kong enterprises and international investors by improving tax arrangements and deepening international financial cooperation.
