According to a survey by cybersecurity startup Straiker, a hacker group called CyberCartel has built an AI smart network driven by large models from multiple manufacturers. The models used are from Anthropic and SpaceX, and this system is used to launch automated cyber attacks against the targets of more than 400 Latin American financial institutions. This research report is one of the first to document in detail that cybercriminals use AI models to successfully carry out automated attacks and hack into financial institutions. Straiker's research shows that CyberCartel, a hacker group that has been targeting Latin American companies for a long time, targets multiple banks and payment applications; the AI agents used by the organization can independently steal passwords and customer data and access users' bank accounts, with almost no manual operation required throughout the process.
