The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to data from the Central Plains Mortgage Research Department and the Land Registry, the Bank of Hong Kong recorded a total of 1,225 registrations in September 2026, 209 more than in August (1016 cases), an increase of 20.6% over the previous month, and hit a new high of two and a half years (31 months) after February 2024 (1,228 cases). A total of 6,733 transfer cases were recorded in the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 30% (29.8%) over 5,186 cases in the same period in 2025. Wang Meifeng, managing director of Central Plains Mortgage, said that the number of registrations increased for four months from June to September this year, and even broke through the 1,000 mark for two consecutive months, far higher than the low of only about 500 cases per month in the past two years, reflecting a marked recovery of this year's conversion to the market.

According to data from the Central Plains Mortgage Research Department and Land Registry, a total of 3,110 reinstatements were recorded in the third quarter of 2026, up 57.1% from the previous month and 67.4% year-on-year, setting a 10-quarter high, a new high for the third quarter of the past 3 years (another high of 4,364 cases in the third quarter of 2023).

Wang Meifeng pointed out that in recent months, many banks introduced mortgage concessions and raised mortgage rebates, which was the main reason for the strong increase in month-on-month repayment registrations. This year's rebound was driven by a number of favorable factors: First, recently, mortgage offers are in full bloom in the market. Some banks have introduced low interest rate fixed loans one after another, and some banks have introduced new “first PH” low interest rate plans to attract mortgage users to seize opportunities to reduce mortgage interest rates; second, in the second half of the year, many banks raised mortgage rebates to increase the competitiveness of mortgage interest rates in the market. Mortgage rebates hit a new high level in nearly three years after banks cut rebates after September 2023, attracting Landlords have earned considerable rebates; third, property prices and property valuations have rebounded markedly this year, allowing more properties to have sufficient water levels to be refunded or even released through “cashing out”, thus further driving up the number of refinancing applications.

In terms of market share, HSBC defended the first position for 5 consecutive months with 315 registrations in September, and its market share rose 2.9 percentage points month-on-month to 25.7%. As for Bank of China Hong Kong, which ranked second, recorded 234 registrations, and its market share fell 0.9 percentage points month-on-month to 19.1%.
