Weatherford’s third quarter results drew a positive market response, as the company delivered revenue above Wall Street expectations despite a year-over-year decline. Management credited the quarter’s performance to robust cash generation, margin discipline, and ongoing strength in offshore services, especially managed pressure drilling and completions. CEO Girish Saligram highlighted the resilience of Weatherford’s Middle East team amid operational disruptions, while noting that revenue stability in the region was achieved even with the loss of major contracts. Latin America saw solid sequential growth, driven by improved activity and collections in Mexico and the first revenue in Venezuela. Overall, leadership emphasized operational execution and portfolio enhancement as key contributors to the quarter.
Looking forward, management’s guidance is shaped by continued momentum in offshore markets, the integration of the NCS Multistage acquisition, and expectations of gradual improvement in international activity outside the Middle East. Saligram stated, “We are planning the business on the basis that the [Middle East] region stays roughly where it is today,” underscoring a cautious approach given persistent volatility. The company is targeting higher free cash flow conversion in 2027 through structural cost improvements, technology-driven margin expansion, and selective divestitures of lower-return product lines. Weatherford also sees potential for significant growth in Venezuela and further progress in offshore completions and managed pressure drilling.
Management attributed Q3 performance to strong offshore demand, portfolio optimization, and disciplined free cash flow generation, while noting persistent regional uncertainties.
Management expects offshore demand, disciplined cost structure, and targeted international expansion to drive growth and margin improvement through 2027.
In upcoming quarters, key indicators to watch include Weatherford’s ability to sustain offshore contract wins and expand completions internationally, the pace and impact of NCS Multistage integration and cross-selling, and execution on Venezuela’s ramp-up and its effect on regional diversification. Progress on cost optimization initiatives and free cash flow conversion will also be important measures of success.
Weatherford currently trades at $83.75, up from $79.72 just before the earnings. Is the company at an inflection point that warrants a buy or sell? Find out in our full research report (it’s free).
