The San Antonio-based company said it had profit of $23.89 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $23.90 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $21.28 per share.

The oil refiner posted revenue of $46.1 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $37.39 billion.
