On a per-share basis, the Melville, New York-based company said it had net income of 85 cents. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs and non-recurring costs, were $1.45 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.39 per share.

The distributor of industrial tools and supplies posted revenue of $1.08 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $222.6 million, or $3.98 per share. Revenue was reported as $4.01 billion.
