Senior Russian political and energy officials are urging the EU to reconsider plans to ban imports of Russian liquefied natural gas, saying that low European gas stocks, rising prices, and deepening dependence on the global LNG market are causing Europe's energy risks to continue to accumulate. Russian presidential envoy Dmitriev said that the “Nord Stream” gas pipeline will resume operation in the future. “From an economic point of view, this is unavoidable.” He said, adding that “the restoration of Russia's energy supply is absolutely inevitable.” The EU plans to completely stop importing Russian gas by early next year in response to the war in Ukraine, but the European Court of Auditors said last month that the EU is underinvesting in replacing Russian energy with diversified energy supplies. Mikhelson, president of Novatek, Russia's largest LNG producer, said that consideration should be given to allowing some Russian LNG to remain in the European market.
