FedEx Buys Chatham County Distribution Center It was Leasing

Listen to the news

FedEx grew weary of leasing a 338,000-square-foot distribution center in Chatham County and bought the warehouse. The Triad Business Joural reports the company paid $58.8 million for the building. Truist Equity Funding was the seller.

The building sits on more than 50 acres in Triangle Innovation Point West, an industrial park inside the larger Triangle Innovation Point megasite near Moncure.

It sits near the site of VinFast, the Vietnamese carmaker that announced in 2022 it would build a $4 billion factory and employ 7,500 people in Chatham. That project has stalled, and the state of North Carolina is now suing VinFast to regain control over the land after the EV company failed to meet investment and job promises.

Owners of the Triangle Innovation Point West are readying the land nearby for a 750 megawatt data center.
