Knowles (KN) Stock Retreats As Q3 Earnings Meet Margin Durability Doubts
Share
Listen to the news

Knowles just turned in its Q3 2026 scorecard and the stock reaction is firmly risk off. The shares finished Friday down 3.5% at US$32.20, even as the business posted US$184 million in sales and US$0.38 in earnings per share at the high end of guidance.

The real story sits in profitability. Net income from ongoing operations reached US$21.2 million, and the trailing net margin now runs at 11.5%. That is a sharp reset in earnings power for an electronic components supplier, while the market trades the ticker as if the latest quarter were a letdown.

Evaluating Whether Knowles’ Margin Story Is Delivering

The upbeat pitch around Knowles hinges on a mix shift toward custom hardware paying off in meaningfully higher profitability. That claim is explicit.

"The main requirement is for Knowles to sustain its shift toward high-value, custom-engineered components and specialty film capacity while keeping EBITDA margins on track toward the higher levels targeted by management."

Q3 gives you concrete progress against that bar. Precision Devices revenue of US$117 million grew faster than the group and carried a 41.6% gross margin. Companywide, trailing net margin now runs at 11.5%, and management reaffirmed a path to higher EBITDA margins, with Q4 guidance pointing to 23% to 25% adjusted EBIT.

Knowles Bear Case Leans On Past, Not This Quarter

The bearish view argues that Knowles might again fail to turn healthy demand into lasting expansion.

"Although Knowles is currently pointing to faster growth in medtech, defense, and industrial demand, the company’s history of a 5.2% annual revenue decline over the last five years suggests prior end market strength has not reliably converted into sustainable top-line expansion."

Q3 does not fully settle that concern. Precision Devices delivered US$117 million with strong book to bill, and group revenue landed at the top of guidance. Yet the specialty film capacity bet still sits largely on one US$75 million energy order, and management flagged capacity constraints and timing risks. The growth problem is not solved, just deferred.

Hunt For Mispriced Earnings Power

Knowles shows that earnings progress and share moves can diverge in the short term. The real opportunity is focusing on stocks that could be undervalued before that gap narrows.

  • Company 1 - 49% below our estimate - wins long duration infrastructure and defense contracts tied to disciplined bidding and tight cost control.
  • Company 2 - 37% below our estimate - expands a payments platform merchants use to route rising transaction volumes through local methods and higher margin services.
  • Company 3 - 42% below our estimate - extends a solar hardware platform by adding storage and inverter offerings supported by a sizable project backlog.

That is three of the list. See the full list of 27 companies trading below our fair value estimates →
