What GE Vernova Doubters Got Wrong
Share
Listen to the news

For GE Vernova shareholders, the return over the past year was 39.7%, including dividends. If you had been weighing a buy decision back on 23 October 2025, you would have been looking at bullish forecasts built on electrification and decarbonization demand, along with a sharply lower implied future P/E, set against warnings about trade protection, tariffs and wind losses. Which side of that split would have looked more convincing to you before any of this played out?

GE Vernova is not the only name tied to this theme. Zero in on 42 power grid technology and infrastructure stocks and compare how each one is priced.

The Argument GE Vernova Investors Faced Upfront

The shares cost US$595 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at GE Vernova then was really choosing between two sharply different stories.

The bullish narrative treated electrification and decarbonization as a durable growth engine, with a Fair Value of US$638 that reflected what those assumptions implied, backed by a 9.4% revenue growth rate and profit margin rising to 12.1% on a future P/E of 37.2x.

The bearish view pointed to policy risk and trade barriers, with a Fair Value of US$280 built on concerns that rising protectionism and subsidy uncertainty could restrict market access and unsettle demand.

What The Results Changed For The GE Vernova Thesis

GE Vernova’s Q2 2026 report showed revenue of US$11.1b and net income of US$668m, both above Q2 2025, with net margin edging from 5.6% to 6.0%. That tilt in profitability leaned toward the bullish electrification and decarbonization story, although ongoing wind issues in the period meant the higher-margin future that bulls sketched remained only partly tested.

The clear hinge here was whether higher orders would translate into fatter earnings. For any similar stock, focus on whether rising backlog and guidance are matched by a higher net margin in the filings, not just bigger revenue headlines.

What GE Vernova's Price Now Assumes

GE Vernova now trades at US$815 after a 39.7% gain over the past year, and the selected Narrative places its Fair Value above that level rather than below it. That view leans heavily on the idea that power infrastructure tied to AI and electrification remains a long runway instead of a passing spike.

The Narrative also leans on the installed gas turbine base and related service work as a long-lived earnings engine instead of a one-off hardware cycle. Any buyer today has to judge whether AI data center demand and grid investment can keep sustaining that kind of high-margin service pipeline for many years.

"Selling a turbine is only the beginning of the relationship. Once installed, utilities and industrial customers rely on GE Vernova for decades of high-margin servicing, maintenance, upgrades, and software support."

How Could You Get There Earlier?

You may be late to this rally, but that does not have to mean arriving late to every opportunity. Start with companies whose prices leave room for a different view of their future. Here are three trading below our estimates.

  • Company 1 - 42% below our estimate - targets higher run rate margins as new manufacturing and installation capacity comes online.
  • Company 2 - 35% below our estimate - converts complex design wins in regulated hardware into long-lived production and support contracts.
  • Company 3 - 37% below our estimate - scales merchant payment volumes while automating higher margin services to offset take rate pressure.

That is three of the list. See all 29 potentially undervalued companies →
