The Zhitong Finance App learned that on October 26, the “Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference” was held for the first time in Hong Kong. Speaking at the conference, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lee Ka-chiu, said that Hong Kong is a leading green and sustainable finance center, which can link green projects with international capital and combine green finance with financial innovation. The green transformation requires the joint efforts of all parties, and multilateral cooperation can achieve greater results.
Li Jiachao said that last month, the SAR government issued a new batch of digital green bonds, denominated in Hong Kong dollars, renminbi, US dollars and euros, reflecting Hong Kong's ability to mobilize capital across currencies to support green development. As an example, he said that Hong Kong can bring together mainland equipment suppliers, Southeast Asian developers and Middle Eastern investors for solar projects, and raise capital, arrange investment and manage risk for all parties.
Li Jiachao pointed out that the SAR government will launch the “Green Technology Bridgehead Plan” next year to support mainland and overseas green enterprises to bring green solutions into the “Belt and Road” market, integrate technology into local needs, and help green enterprises in the “Belt and Road” region use Hong Kong as a springboard to expand overseas markets.
Li Jiachao also said that the SAR government is cooperating with the National Energy Administration to establish Hong Kong's first “supercharging technology demonstration station”. The goal is to complete it next year, showcase technology compatible with national and European charging standards, and play a role in a wide range of markets.
According to reports, the conference was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The theme of “Joining the South's Green Transformation to Promote Global Sustainable Development” attracted more than 400 government officials and experts from 16 countries and regions.
