The Zhitong Finance App learned that on October 26, Yu Weiwen, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, said that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority will host the 5th International Financial Leaders Investment Summit on November 2-4, 2026. The summit will bring together about 280 international financial leaders, including about 120 group chairmen and CEOs. It is a grand event for high-level dialogue and deepening ties with the global financial community.
Yu Weiwen said that looking back on the first summit, the global financial market has experienced many shocks over the past few years. In particular, the rapid development of technology has brought about disruptive structural changes — regional military conflicts have had a profound impact on the global economy; trade policies and security considerations have fragmented the geo-economy and the global supply chain continues to be restructured; blockchain technology is reshaping the global financial infrastructure and financial services model; non-bank financial institutions continue to expand, making the pros and cons of financial services more complicated. Currently, inflationary pressure, worsening fiscal debt of major economies, and increasing cyber risk are all concerns of the market, which can be described as fraught with challenges.
However, none has had the most profound impact than artificial intelligence (AI). From astronomical investment and financial sustainability, to the elimination of weak and strong industries caused by AI, to the impact on productivity, employment, inflation, and interest rates, AI undoubtedly brings a lot of uncertainty and risk to the financial market.
Yu Weiwen explained that the three-day summit will kick off with a welcome dinner on the evening of November 2, followed by the main summit on November 3. On November 4, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, and the Hong Kong School of Finance will jointly host the “Dialogue with International Investors” seminar.
During the summit, financial leaders will discuss emerging opportunities and potential risks brought to different industries, assets, and regions by macroeconomic trends, changes in financial markets, and technological developments.
He added that participants will also experience firsthand how Hong Kong itself can “think differently and open up new horizons” to drive economic transformation with innovation and technology while strengthening the competitiveness and momentum of its international financial center. On the one hand, it continues to consolidate its existing advantages, and on the other hand, continue to develop cutting-edge fields, including deepening the function of a global offshore RMB hub, promoting a more active fixed income market, improving an empowered and resilient digital asset and payment ecosystem, and developing gold and commodities businesses.
