If Viant Technology was on your watchlist rather than in your portfolio, the return may sting. Investors who held Viant Technology over the past year are up 52.1%, including dividends. That gain sits between two sharply different starting views, one framing digital migration and AI as a springboard for new markets, and the other warning that a crowded DSP field could choke revenue. Which assumption deserved more weight on 23 October 2025: Viant’s ability to turn AI and CTV focus into durable customer spend?
On Simply Wall St, a Narrative is an investor's thesis written down: the reasoning, plus the numbers it rests on. Run those numbers and you get an estimated Fair Value.
The easy part of this move is behind Viant Technology. Zero in on 29 high quality undervalued stocks for companies trading below our estimates.
The shares cost US$9.14 at the start of the period, and Viant Technology sat between two sharply different narratives that both sounded workable on paper.
The bullish view put Fair Value at US$19. It relied on revenue rising 12.0% a year and profit margin reaching 5.5%, supported by ViantAI and privacy-focused IDs as ad spend shifted toward CTV and premium publishers.
The bearish case marked Fair Value at US$5.89 and assumed revenue would fall 18.0% a year with only 0.5% margin, reflecting concern that larger DSP rivals and heavy competition in ad tech could limit Viant’s progress.
Viant Technology’s acquisition of TVision Insights, which adds detailed CTV attention data to its platform, leaned toward the bullish case that ViantAI and a connected TV focus could deepen advertiser spend. At the same time, Q2 2026 revenue of US$104.254m versus US$77.853m in Q2 2025 came with a small loss and a net margin that slipped to -0.1%. The evidence cut both ways.
The big assumption was that higher digital spend would quickly translate into healthier profitability. When you test a similar story elsewhere, track whether rising sales arrive with a clearly improving net margin rather than just bigger top-line numbers.
Viant Technology now trades at US$13.81. The selected Narrative argues that its Fair Value sits above that level, grounded in connected TV traction, proprietary IDs and attention data rather than broad digital ad optimism.
The core claim is that today’s price still does not fully credit Viant converting its record large-advertiser RFP pipeline into sustained, higher margin CTV and Outcomes spend.
"The main thing that has to go right is that Viant keeps converting its record large-advertiser RFP pipeline into ramping spend while sustaining high adoption of its proprietary data and AI tools across existing customers. Current valuation implies the market is discounting how Outcomes, TVision and rising enterprise spend could affect Viant Technology’s cash generation and share count, despite the company reporting growing free cash flow, ongoing share repurchases and no debt."
