Listen to the news

Pinterest Inc (NYSE:PINS) stock faces downward pressure on Monday as traders navigate pre-earnings anxiety, macroeconomic headwinds and institutional positioning ahead of the company’s third-quarter financial report.

During Monday’s session, trading activity recorded a volume of 1.608 million stock units. This compares to the 100-day average volume of 12.541 million units, according to Benzinga Pro data.

Sector Weakness Pressures PINS

While the broader market advances, with the Nasdaq gaining 0.32% and the S&P 500 rising 0.41%, Pinterest trades lower alongside sector-specific weakness.

The Communication Services sector fell 1.18% on Monday, ranking last among the 11 market sectors. Pinterest stock experiences steeper declines than the wider group, reflecting stock-specific selling pressure.

The sector remains under persistent pressure, sliding 6.18% over the past 30 days and 4.89% over the past 90 days, creating ongoing challenges for digital advertising platforms.

Earnings Countdown

Pinterest reports third-quarter financial results on Thursday. Market estimates project earnings per share of 48 cents, an increase from 38 cents reported in the prior-year period. Revenue projections stand at $1.21 billion, up from $1.05 billion year-over-year. Pinterest carries a valuation multiple of 65.6 times earnings.

Technical Analysis

At $20.99, PINS is sitting in a tight battleground around its short- and intermediate-term trend gauges: it’s trading 0.7% below the 20-day SMA ($21.17) but 2.1% above the 50-day SMA ($20.88), which can create choppy, headline-sensitive trading. It’s also trading 1.4% below the 100-day SMA ($21.63) while holding 2.2% above the 200-day SMA ($20.86), so the longer-term trend is trying to stabilize even as the medium-term ceiling remains overhead.

RSI is the cleaner momentum read right now, sitting at 49.90, which is basically neutral and consistent with a stock that’s been range-bound rather than trending cleanly.

The bigger trend tell is that the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA (a golden cross that occurred in August), but price still hasn’t built enough follow-through to reclaim the 100-day area.

  • Key Resistance: $24 — a round-number area that can act as a common stalling point for rebounds
  • Key Support: $18 — a prior demand zone that sits well below current price and can become the next downside reference if selling accelerates

PINS Stock Price Activity: Pinterest shares are trading lower by 5.31% at $21.14 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
