Brookfield has opened a Doha office, anchored by its global credit platform including the recently acquired Oaktree. The Qatar News Agency reported that the move builds on Brookfield’s existing investments and partnerships in Qatar, notably its planned $20-billion joint venture with Qai, the artificial intelligence subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority, to develop AI infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets.

“Qatar is a key investment market for Brookfield, where we have built longstanding relationships with leading institutions like Qatar Investment Authority and our $20-billion partnership with Qai,” Jad Ellawn, Brookfield’s managing partner and regional head of the Middle East, posted on LinkedIn. “Long-term partnerships and local presence have always been central to how we invest globally and in the Middle East, and this is no different.”

Brookfield plans to work closely with its partners to identify investment opportunities in Qatar. The New York- and Toronto-based firm manages approximately $20 billion in assets across the Gulf Cooperation Council, spanning private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure.
