According to the Zhitong Finance App, HSBC Holdings (00005) announced results for the third quarter of 2026. Revenue increased by 800 million US dollars to 18.6 billion US dollars compared to the third quarter of 2025, mainly reflecting the increase in net interest income from the banking business. Thanks to increased customer activity, the costs and other benefits of corporate and institutional wealth management services also rose. The increase came from wholesale banking business and debt and stock market business, while expenses and other income from the investment product distribution business and private banking business under the wealth management business also increased. However, part of the increase was offset by the loss in valuation of the enterprise center and the recurrence of a one-time favorable impact on the insurance business in the third quarter of 2025.
Profit before tax was US$9.6 billion, up US$2.3 billion from the third quarter of 2025, or 32%, mainly due to the net positive impact of items requiring attention of US$1.4 billion, reflecting the non-recurrence of US$1.4 billion in legal provisions for the third quarter of 2025. The increase also reflects an increase in revenue, mainly due to net interest income from banking operations, as well as a reduction in anticipated credit losses and other credit impairment reserves (anticipated credit losses). Profit after tax was US$7.6 billion, up US$2.1 billion from the third quarter of 2025, or 38%.
In the first nine months of 2026, revenue increased by US$4.5 billion to US$56.4 billion compared to the first nine months of 2025, or 9%. Profit before tax was US$29.2 billion, an increase of US$6 billion over the first nine months of 2025, an increase of 26%, mainly reflecting the net positive impact of items requiring attention of US$3.7 billion. The increase also reflects the increase in net interest income and expenses and other income from the banking business, which led to an increase in revenue, mainly from wealth management business and wholesale transaction banking business. Profit after tax was US$22.9 billion, an increase of US$4.9 billion over the first nine months of 2025, or 28%.
