On a per-share basis, the Atlanta-based company said it had net income of 93 cents. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains, came to 91 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 87 cents per share.

The world's largest beverage maker posted revenue of $13.38 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $13.35 billion, which also topped Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $12.93 billion.
