Valued at $18.3 billion by market cap, News Corporation (NWS) is a global media and information services company that produces and distributes news, financial data, books, and digital real estate services. Headquartered in New York, the company owns a portfolio of well-known brands that generate revenue through advertising, subscriptions, licensing, and digital services.
The global media and information powerhouse is gearing up to report its fiscal 2027 first-quarter earnings after the market closes on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Ahead of the event, Wall Street currently forecasts a profit of $0.27 per share on a diluted basis, up 22.7% from $0.22 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company beat the consensus estimates in each of the last four quarters.
Looking beyond the immediate quarter, the broader trajectory appears more constructive. In the current year, analysts expect NWS’ EPS to climb 11% year over year to $1.31 from $1.18 in fiscal 2026.
NWS stock has gained 11% over the past year, underperforming the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 13% gains but has surpassed the State Street Communication Services Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLC) 10.1% downtick over the same time frame.
On Aug. 5, News Corporation shares rose 1.3% after the company reported better-than-expected Q4 2026 revenue of $2.34 billion, while adjusted EPS nearly doubled year over year to $0.35. Results were bolstered by 7% revenue growth at Dow Jones and a 19% increase in digital real estate services, underscoring the strength of its digital-focused businesses. Investor optimism was further fueled by News Corp’s AI strategy, including content partnerships with OpenAI and Meta, as well as ongoing discussions with other technology companies to capitalize on growing demand for AI content licensing.
Analysts’ consensus opinion on NWS stock is reasonably bullish, with a “Moderate Buy” rating overall. All three analysts covering the stock recommend a "Strong Buy." The average price target of $38.50 implies 15% upside potential from current trading levels.
