The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to people familiar with the matter, global alternative asset management company TPG (TPG.US) is in negotiations with Elliott Investment Management to acquire British data center company Ark at a valuation of about 5 billion US dollars.

The report said that related negotiations are still ongoing, but the deal is yet to be confirmed. TPG and Ark Data Centres did not immediately respond to requests for comment during non-business hours.

According to reports, Ark and the British Cabinet Office have a joint venture Crown Hosting Data Centres. Relying on this entity, Ark can handle all of the UK government's public data center business requirements.

Last year, it was reported that Elliott has been seeking a strategic disposal plan for the asset since acquiring Ark Data Centres in 2012. At the time, it was expected that the sale consideration would exceed US$4 billion.
