03:36 AM EDT, 10/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- German companies' layoff plans "somewhat" slowed in October, but an upturn in the labor market "still lacks the strength" for a wider workforce expansion, the ifo Institute said Wednesday. The ifo Employment Barometer ticked up to 95.5 points from 95.1 points in September. Workforce reductions persist in key German sectors, including manufacturing, automotive, trade and construction. Meanwhile, industries planning to add jobs include service providers and data processing and electronics producers, with the latter planning to grow their numbers for the first time since the start of 2023.
