On Oct. 15, WMT stock rose 1.5% following an upgrade from Deutsche Bank. Walmart was upgraded from “Hold” to “Buy”, along with an increase in its price target from $113 to $136 as well. The upgrade happened following WMT management’s comments about persistent inflation reinforcing the retailer's value proposition and accelerating grocery market-share gains. Additionally, the bank observed that higher-margin revenue streams, including digital advertising, marketplace merchant services, and memberships, are outgrowing core retail operations. Additionally, the company’s supply-chain automation is also set to expand incremental profit margins.
Analysts are highly optimistic about WMT, with the stock having a “Strong Buy” rating overall. Among the 39 analysts covering the stock, 30 are recommending a “Strong Buy,” six recommend a “Moderate Buy,” and three recommend a “Hold.” WMT’s average analyst price target is $129.26, indicating an upside of 8.3% from the current level.
