Listen to the news

AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (NYSE:AMC) shares are in the spotlight Wednesday, with earnings on deck, box office, attendance and the balance sheet in focus, and a technical setup showing a constructive trend with neutral momentum all drawing attention.

Earnings Preview & History

AMC is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings on Nov. 4 after the market closes. Analysts estimate a loss of about 4 cent per share along with revenue of $1.54 billion. For the prior quarter, AMC reported adjusted earnings per share of 14 cents, beating the consensus estimate of a loss of 6 cents. The company also posted revenue of $1.60 billion, up 14.2% from a year earlier, the highest quarterly revenue in its history, and beating the consensus estimate of $1.47 billion.

What to Watch: Box Office Recovery, Cash Flow and Debt

Investors will be closely tracking AMC’s third-quarter box office and attendance, after a second quarter in which revenue hit a record $1.6 billion and adjusted EBITDA reached a record $321.4 million, at a margin of 20.1%. AMC said its annual breakeven is about $10.4 billion of domestic box office, so the pace of the industry’s recovery matters for its cash flow. Free cash flow was $190.1 million in the second quarter. Europe will be in focus too, after attendance rose about 18% and adjusted EBITDA rose 337% there.

The balance sheet will draw attention as well. AMC had $778.4 million of cash at the end of June, refinanced $400 million of debt due in 2027 and said it doesn’t expect any significant debt maturities until 2029. It also raised about $285 million through equity offerings in the quarter, so any new share issuance would add to dilution concerns. Shares jumped about 21% after the last report.

AMC Trades 51.7% Above Its 200-Day Average, With a July Golden Cross Intact

From a trend perspective, AMC is still in a constructive posture: the stock is trading 1.4% above its 20-day SMA ($2.93), 6.7% above its 50-day SMA ($2.79), and 51.7% above its 200-day SMA ($1.96). That stack of moving averages suggests buyers have defended pullbacks over multiple timeframes, rather than letting the rally unwind.

The golden cross that formed in July (50-day SMA moving above the 200-day SMA) continues to act as a longer-term "trend check," and price holding above both averages keeps that bullish structure intact. The 20-day SMA also remains above the 50-day SMA, reinforcing the idea that the near-term trend is still pointed up.

RSI is the cleaner momentum read right now, sitting at 53.85, which is neutral and consistent with a market that’s digesting gains instead of accelerating. In plain terms, RSI helps gauge whether a move is getting overextended; AMC’s reading suggests neither buyers nor sellers have a clear momentum edge at the moment.

  • Key Resistance: $3.40 — the 52-week high zone from September, a natural area where prior supply can reappear
  • Key Support: $2.93 — near the 20-day SMA/EMA, a level that often acts as the first "trend support" during consolidations
