Listen to the news

Key Points

  • Full-year 2026 revenue guidance increased to $150 million to $165 million.

  • Third-quarter revenue rose 31% year over year to $43.6 million.

  • Contract backlog increased 22% quarter over quarter to $330 million.

On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, BigBear.ai (NYSE:BBAI) raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $150 million to $165 million. The guidance increase shows that growing demand for custom artificial intelligence software in national security is translating into larger contract commitments. Three things management said on the call stand out.

1. Revenue Accelerates as Generative AI Platform Expands Margins and Contracts

Quarterly top-line growth accelerated as the company integrated its generative artificial intelligence platform acquired late last year. Expanding margins on software deployments helped drive management's decision to raise annual sales targets for the first time.

First, revenue grew 31% year over year, our third consecutive quarter of growth. Because of this performance, we are raising our full year 2026 revenue guidance range to $150 million to $165 million. This is the first time Big Bear has raised our revenue guidance and achieving the midpoint would represent 23% growth over last year.

2. New Contract Wins Broaden Customer Base Beyond Core Defense

BigBear.ai secured new awards across civilian and intelligence operations, including subcontracts supporting border systems. Landing accounts across multiple government departments lowers reliance on any single defense program.

New enterprise customers in Q3 include critical national security departments and agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Coast Guard, NASA, the Department of Energy, the Department of Veterans Affairs.
-- Kevin McAleenan, Chief Executive Officer

3. Applied AI Focus Avoids Heavy Infrastructure Capital Requirements

The business operates at the application layer of artificial intelligence rather than building costly data centers or foundation models. Deploying custom software into client workflows allows the company to benefit from broader industry spending while avoiding massive capital expenditures.

And I would like to underscore that our position in this value chain is deliberate and built on our track record of rapid innovation with advanced tools directly supporting operators. You do not need to finance data center buildouts or the development of general purpose foundation models to participate in the growth of AI.
-- Kevin McAleenan, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Contract backlog is expanding alongside rising defense budgets and border security mandates, giving BigBear.ai clear visibility into next year. Deep domain expertise, a security-cleared workforce, and model-agnostic platforms position the business to capture high-consequence government workflows.

Management is tracking acquisition integration, market penetration in civilian agencies, and balance sheet strength as debt maturities approach.

With about $17 million of convertible debt outstanding, that will mature in December of this year, we expect to be in great shape to kick off 2027 debt free and with maximum flexibility to be opportunistic in the execution of our strategy.
-- Sean Ricker, Chief Financial Officer

A debt-free balance sheet entering 2027 provides operational flexibility as macroeconomic tailwinds in defense modernization accelerate.

Our full focus is on delivering enduring strategic advantage for the United States, its allies, and critical industries. Our strategy to build, deploy, and acquire catalytic technology for operators in national security and trade and travel is the right strategy at the right time.
-- Kevin McAleenan, Chief Executive Officer
