The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $11.97 per share.

The oil refiner posted revenue of $51.51 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $33.72 billion.
