Nokian Renkaat Oyj just posted its Q3 2026 scorecard and the message from the income statement is clear. Profitability is tightening up faster than the share price suggests. The stock closed at €13.66 on 28 October after a weak 30 day stretch where it fell about 12.7%. Yet segment operating profit reached €47.0m with a 13.1% margin and segment EBITDA hit €80.1m, as the tyre maker leaned hard into price and mix instead of chasing volume.
For a market that has been focused on valuation strain and a rich P/E, the real action this quarter sat squarely in margins.

Earnings tell you how Nokian Renkaat Oyj performed this quarter, but investors who care about what they are really paying tend to focus on the cash moving through the business. Look at Nokian Renkaat Oyj's cash flows on their own and the stock could be a meaningful 17% undervalued.
Premium mix is supposed to carry Nokian Renkaat through choppy tyre demand, so the question is whether customers are really buying into the upgrade story.
"The company is increasing the share of higher value all season, summer and 18 inch plus tires, which already account for 51% of sales by value. It is also rolling out multiple new premium products such as Hakkapeliitta 01 and Snowproof 3P."
Q3 shows this ambition turning into maths. 18"+ tyres reached a 54% share. Price and mix added 5.2% in Passenger Car Tyres while volumes dipped slightly. Segment EBITDA of €80.1m and a 22.3% margin indicate value over volume is converting into profit, at least for now.
The worry is that cost savings and mix gains lose steam long before the 2029 profitability ambition is met.
"The focus on continuous improvement and cost efficiency, including lower manufacturing and material costs, has already contributed materially to profit. As these gains mature, there is a risk that future margin expansion becomes harder to achieve, which could cap growth in operating profit and cash flow."
Recent figures partly challenge that concern. Segment EBITDA margin reached 22.3% in Q3 and 18.4% year to date, moving closer to the long term 24% target. Segment operating margin of 13.1% also approaches the >15% goal. Yet guidance for 2026 at 9–10% underlines that the multi year margin climb is far from secured.
