On a per-share basis, the Springfield, Missouri-based company said it had net income of 97 cents.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 92 cents per share.

The auto parts retailer posted revenue of $5.12 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5 billion.

O'Reilly Automotive expects full-year earnings to be $3.25 to $3.35 per share, with revenue in the range of $19 billion to $19.3 billion.
