05:11 AM EDT, 10/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Shares in Shell (SHEL.L, SHELL.AS) rose on Thursday after the energy giant unveiled a new $5 billion stock repurchase program as its third-quarter adjusted earnings surged year over year. Adjusted earnings for the three months ended Sept. 30 jumped to $10.81 billion from $5.43 billion a year earlier, while revenue increased to $92.85 billion from $68.15 billion. The surge in adjusted earnings was mainly due to stronger refining margins and higher commodity prices, Shell said in its financial report for the period. The company's shares were up more than 3% during early trading in London and Amsterdam. The oil and gas major will repurchase shares on both bourses under the three-month share repurchase plan, with $3 billion worth of shares to be bought back in London and the remaining $2 billion in Amsterdam. Repurchased shares will be cancelled. The company's board increased the interim dividend to $0.3906 per share from $0.3580 per share paid previously. The board also declared a dividend of $0.7812 per American depositary share.
