Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk mocked Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) on Wednesday, saying that a fully-specced Mac Studio computer from the Cupertino-based tech giant cost as much as a Tesla vehicle.

Tesla Seems ‘Quite Affordable,’ Elon Musk Says

In a post on the social media platform X, user Austin Allred shared a screen capture of the official Apple website charging $29,799 for the Mac Studio unit with a 36-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, with 512 gigabytes of unified memory and 16TB of disk space.

Notably, the $29,799 retail price for the Mac Studio is the outright cost with no trade-in and the M5 Ultra chip. Apple also offers financing options.

Musk responded to Allred’s post on X, joking about the Mac’s price. “Makes a Tesla seem quite affordable!” the billionaire said in the post.

For reference, the Tesla Model 3’s Rear Wheel Drive trim with 321 miles of range costs $36,990 in the U.S. On the other hand, Tesla’s Model Y SUV’s Rear Wheel Drive trim level with the same range figure costs $39,990. Tesla also offers financing options for the vehicle and the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system as a subscription, charging $99/month.

However, at $29,799, the fully-specced Mac Studio also costs more than the Ford Motor Co.’s (NYSE:F) upcoming Fathom all-electric EV pickup truck, which, according to Ford CEO Jim Farley, would have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $28,350 for the entry-level trim set to be launched next year.

Price Action: TSLA shares were down 0.39% to $402.65 during pre-market trading, while AAPL stock rose 1.19% to $347.93 during pre-market trading.
