12:04 PM EDT, 10/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- More than 90% of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI), or MPS, shareholders voted against the company's proposed takeover offers for Banco BPM (BAMI.MI) and Banca Generali (BGN.MI), Bloomberg News reported Thursday. The two simultaneous and parallel voluntary public exchange offers, intended for MPS to thwart a takeover by Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI), needed approval from a two-thirds majority at the company's Thursday meeting, the report said. MPS did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
