12:25 PM EDT, 10/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Oulu Police Department in Finland launched a criminal investigation into the preparatory work for Alphabet (ABEA.F) unit Google's data center project in Muhos over suspected environmental law breaches. The police department, which has received five requests for investigation related to Google unit Tuike Finland's data center project, said Thursday that there have been ambiguities and deficiencies in the drainage and water management at the data center site. Other possible criminal charges may be specified later in the preliminary investigation, which the police department aims to complete in 2027. "We've partnered closely with the government and communities in Finland on infrastructure for over a decade, and are actively responding to enquiries from LVV and other authorities. We will cooperate with the investigation announced by the Oulu police on October 29 and will continue to focus on maintaining compliance at our sites," a Google spokesperson told MT Newswires.
