Why Is DocuSign Stock Falling on Thursday?
Share
Listen to the news

DocuSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:DOCU) stock is falling on Thursday as investors take profits following the stock’s recent rally to a new 52-week high of $85.90 earlier this week.

The decline also comes amid broader weakness in enterprise software stocks, potentially driven by ServiceNow Inc. (NYSE:NOW) third-quarter financial results, which may be weighing on industry peers. Meanwhile, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) third-quarter results could be fueling concerns across the broader technology sector, according to Benzinga Pro.

DocuSign sells cloud software that helps customers create, sign and manage agreements with legally binding e-signatures, putting it in the enterprise software category that was under pressure.

The Nasdaq Composite is down 1.30%, while the S&P 500 has declined 0.34%. The technology sector is also under pressure, falling 1.15% on Thursday. Over the past 30 days, the sector has declined 2.96%, although it remains up 7.64% over the past 90 days.

Sector View

The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) was down 1.30%, ranking 10th out of 11 sectors on the day. Healthcare (XLV) led with a gain of 2.06%, while the Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLC) lagged, down 1.47%.

Eight of 11 sectors rose and three fell. DocuSign was moving in the same direction as its sector, but with a larger drop than XLK.

Technical Analysis

From a longer-term trend perspective, DOCU still screens bullish: the stock is trading about 6% above its 20-day SMA ($76.45) and roughly 48.8% above its 200-day SMA ($54.48), which keeps the primary trend pointed higher even on a down day. The 20-day SMA is above the 50-day SMA, and the golden cross that occurred in August (50-day above the 200-day) continues to support the "buy-the-dip" bias as long as price holds above key moving averages.

DOCU is also trading within striking distance of its 52-week high ($85.90) after setting a swing high in October, so pullbacks can show up as traders sell into resistance and lock in gains. The most actionable near-term levels are the recent high overhead and the rising short-term trend support below.

  • Key Resistance: $85.90 — the 52-week high from October is the clearest overhead supply zone
  • Key Support: $76.45 — the 20-day SMA is a nearby trend gauge that often acts as first support in uptrends

Benzinga Edge Rankings

According to the Benzinga Edge scorecard, DocuSign’s momentum remains strong, scoring 95.3 out of 100, indicating a robust stock trend relative to the broader market despite Thursday’s pullback. Its growth score of 84.28 also signals favorable growth prospects. However, its value score of 28.87 highlights a potential weakness, suggesting the stock may be trading at a premium, leaving limited room for error if growth slows.

DOCU Stock Price Activity: Docusign shares were down 3.16% at $80.96 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
