Advantest stock closed at ¥37,030 today after a sharp run in recent weeks, so expectations were high heading into the Q2 2027 report. The headline print did not disappoint. Quarterly revenue reached ¥477,727m and basic earnings per share came in at ¥267.76, backed by what management called record gross and operating margins.
Short term traders are focused on whether that kind of profitability can survive component inflation and capacity strain. Longer term holders are weighing those same pressures against a business that now carries a rich 46.6x P/E and a discounted cash flow estimate well below the current share price.
Love Advantest's record margins but worried about paying 46.6x P/E for a stock trading above its discounted cash flow estimate? Take a look at our screener of companies that pair strong fundamentals with more grounded pricing in the 15 high quality undervalued stocks.
Advantest is already talking about doubling tester capacity again. Ask Charlie what Advantest’s 20k capacity push could mean.
For the bullish capacity story to hold, Advantest needs more than strong headlines. It needs proof that output is really scaling in line with rising test demand.
"The main thing that has to go right is that Advantest successfully scales V93000 and related capacity, including buffer capacity, to match higher test content per device and sustained AI-driven demand without becoming a bottleneck for key customers."
Management now reports a ramp from roughly 5,000 systems toward 10,000, raised SoC tester guidance, and a 28% H1 to H2 revenue step up tied directly to higher shipments. Capacity execution is tracking the bullish script, even if the exact 10,000 timing is still pending.
Bears worry less about demand and more about what happens to Advantest profitability and memory exposure once early tailwinds fade.
"Advantest highlights that recent record net margins included the benefit of a one off inventory obsolescence reversal and are facing pressure from higher bill of materials costs, especially sharply higher DRAM prices used in its testers."
Record gross and operating margins, plus upgraded full year guidance, show no visible crack yet. Management still flags DDR and HBM inflation and the roll off of that inventory benefit, and memory tester strength is concentrated in Q4, so the cost and share worries remain live rather than resolved.
