Listen to the news

Key Points

  • Underwriting income grew 83.7% year over year in the third quarter.

  • Ategrity launched four specialty products in four weeks, with AI helping accelerate the launches.

  • Policy submission volume grew 30% during the third quarter.

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 21, 2026, Ategrity Specialty (NYSE:ASIC) reported an all-time low combined ratio of 84.7% (figures below 100% indicate underwriting profit). Underwriting income increased 83.7% year over year. Smart pricing discipline and automated workflows are expanding profitability in the excess and surplus insurance market, a segment for specialized risks that standard insurers avoid.

Three takeaways from the call highlight how management plans to compound those gains.

1. Technical Pricing Takes Priority Over Short-Term Volume

Underwriters implemented rate increases on casualty policies after expanding coverage to address shifting legal and regulatory demands. Rather than offering broader protection without charging for it, management insisted on higher prices to protect long-term margins.

Consistent with our technical approach to pricing, we effectively implemented rate increases on new casualty business to cover the higher cost of product resulting from this expanded coverage. This enables continued price adequacy as casualty loss trends evolve.
-- Chris Schenk, President and Chief Underwriting Officer

2. Artificial Intelligence Cuts Product Launch Times by Two-Thirds

The company deployed artificial intelligence tools to accelerate the rollout of four new specialty lines, including environmental liability and energy. Automation reduced initial development from 12 weeks to four weeks while eliminating upfront legal and software expense.

All in, total development was four weeks, down from our originally budgeted 12 weeks, which included technology, product design, form development, and pricing. These launches demonstrate the productivity gains AI is delivering across our business, both in development costs and speed to market.
-- Chris Schenk, President and Chief Underwriting Officer

3. Platform Upgrades Trade Short-Term Friction for Scale

Management rolled out its Next-Gen underwriting platform, an automated system designed to speed up policy quoting and risk assessment. Short-term system adoption created temporary operational friction during the quarter, but the upgrade sets up higher processing volume heading into 2027.

Second, we rolled out our Next-Gen underwriting technology, temporarily reducing productivity in exchange for substantially greater underwriting throughput and efficiency going forward.
-- Justin Cohen, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Policy submissions are accelerating as expanding distribution networks broaden the deal pipeline. Automated quoting gives underwriters a distinct speed advantage, while management focuses on pricing discipline and loss trends.

Submissions grew 30% in the quarter, reflecting exceptional demand for our offerings that give our distribution partners a competitive edge.
-- Justin Cohen, Chief Executive Officer

New product launches and automated tools expand market reach while holding fixed operating costs flat.

To sum it up, we believe Ategrity is just getting started. Our new products, expanded coverage, Next-Gen technology, and implementation of AI are creating an expanding opportunity set and a runway for further profitable market share gains.
-- Justin Cohen, Chief Executive Officer
