Cohu came into this Q3 2026 report with a mixed reputation in semiconductor test, a stock up slightly at 0.49% on the day but a 30‑day return down 19%. Expectations were high for a clean inflection. The headline was clear: Revenue reached about US$173 million with Basic EPS at roughly US$0.26, and the quarter flipped back to profit after recent losses.
The market barely budged on the print. For investors who care most about earnings power and margins, that muted reaction sits at odds with a business that just put real money back on the bottom line.

The bullish story hangs on Cohu converting AI and high performance computing momentum into durable earnings power.
"Growing exposure to high-performance computing, AI data center infrastructure, HBM memory and physical AI device test, including Eclipse and Neon platforms, ties Cohu to increasing test intensity in advanced compute, which can affect system revenue and margin mix."
Q3 shows that thesis starting to materialize. HPC related revenue is guided to about US$120 million for 2026, bookings for systems climbed sharply, and Eclipse capacity is being expanded to roughly triple 2027 handler shipments compared with 2026. Recurring revenue at roughly 48% of sales also supports the claim of a stickier earnings base as the installed footprint grows.

The bear view argues Cohu’s AI skew could leave it overexposed if a few big programs slow or reset.
"AI data center and high performance compute handlers such as Eclipse are tied closely to a small set of large programs. Any moderation in AI infrastructure spending or slower ramp of high power devices can leave Cohu with underutilized capacity and softer systems revenue, while fixed engineering and support costs hold net margins back."
Q3 bookings tell a different story. Systems orders climbed 318% year on year, total bookings rose 126%, and Cohu lifted 2026 HPC revenue expectations to about US$120 million. Fixed costs are still there, but this print does not yet show the feared capacity slack or program cancellations.
Cohu just returned to profit, yet the share price showed little movement. The real opportunity could sit in stocks the market has not fully repriced yet.
