KLA just served up record Q1 2027 numbers and the stock did not hesitate. Shares jumped 5.5% to about US$167 after the release, a sharp swing for a semiconductor equipment heavyweight that had been down 14.8% over the past month.
The emotion is simple. Traders are reacting to a clean beat on quarterly revenue of US$4.14b and high net income of US$1.55b. The deeper story is trickier. A market that had been pricing in fatigue is suddenly rewarding strength, even as valuation already runs ahead of a discounted cash flow estimate.
Love KLA's clean beat and rich profitability but uneasy about paying up for a stock that screens as fully valued on discounted cash flow work? Compare it with a curated group of peers that pair strong fundamentals with more grounded pricing in our 30 high quality undervalued stocks

The bullish pitch has been that KLA’s future hinges less on one more upcycle and more on richer content in advanced packaging and services.
"Expansion of KLA’s installed base, with contract-based services growing at mid-teens rates and Specialty Process, PCB and Component Inspection businesses expected to grow over 25% in 2026, sets up an underappreciated path for services and specialty tools to make up a larger portion of high margin recurring revenue and support more stable earnings and free cash flow."
Q1 backs that up. Services reached about US$850m, up 14% year on year, and management highlighted PCB and component inspection as contributors. Operating margin hit 46.1%, with US$1.34b in free cash flow. Those are concrete milestones toward the mix shift this thesis leans on.

Bears have argued that KLA’s cost base would quietly eat into profitability even with healthy AI demand.
"Even as AI driven WFE spending and process control intensity are supporting higher system shipments, the combination of long optical component lead times and elevated DRAM and tariff costs suggests KLA may have to prioritize delivery over pricing power."
The latest quarter cuts against that concern for now. Gross margin landed at 62.7% and management guided to about 62.5%, while operating margin reached 46.1%. Supply remains tight and lead times stay long, yet the feared visible squeeze on profitability and free cash flow did not show up in this print.
KLA just reminded the market that a strong quarter can quickly refocus attention on fundamentals. The real opportunity sits in finding stocks that could be undervalued before sentiment adjusts to new information.
