Why Sandoz Group Rose Even Though Profit Fell
Share
Listen to the news

If you had picked a side on Sandoz Group back on 29 October 2025, the past year just put a hard number on that call. Investors who held Sandoz Group over the past year are up 59.5%, including dividends. That outcome now sits next to a bullish camp arguing for accelerating biosimilar adoption and a bearish group focused on tariffs, pricing pressure, and litigation. If you were making that decision today, which of those worries or hopes would carry more weight?

The useful thing about a Narrative is that the reasoning is checkable: the assumptions sit beside the argument, and together they imply an estimated Fair Value you can disagree with.

The Argument You Would Have Been Weighing Up On Sandoz Group

The shares cost CHF50.68 at the start of the period, and investors in Sandoz Group had to choose which story they believed.

The bullish view put Fair Value at CHF60.37 and relied on aging populations feeding faster biosimilar uptake. That camp assumed revenue growth of 8.9% a year with profit margins at 15.3%, supported by manufacturing gains and a broader pipeline.

The bearish camp saw Fair Value at CHF38.02 and focused on tariffs and pricing pressure. That side assumed revenue growth of 4.5% with margins at 11.0%, limited by tighter regulation and rising legal and competitive risks.

What The New Evidence Put To The Sandoz Group Thesis

Sandoz Group spent the period leaning hard into the bullish story on biosimilars with new partnerships, an expanded pipeline and plans to grow its portfolio to more than 100 compounds. At the same time, H1 2026 results showed revenue at US$5,784m and net income at US$109m, with net margin falling to 1.9%. The evidence cut both ways.

The useful takeaway is simple. When a case relies on higher profitability, do not stop at headline growth. Track net margin in each report and compare it directly with the original margin assumption.

What Sandoz Group's Run Has Already Priced In

Sandoz Group now trades at CHF83.38, and the selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits below that level. That view rests less on generic pricing worries and more on whether the capital heavy Bio100 plan and GLP 1 push truly convert into enduring cash generation.

For today’s price to hold up, a buyer has to believe Sandoz can ramp its biosimilar and GLP 1 portfolio while keeping free cash flow and returns on invested capital resilient despite sustained high investment.

"The main thing that has to go right is that Sandoz executes its capital intensive Bio100 and biosimilars expansion plan, including vertical integration and the European biosimilar hub, without eroding free cash flow or returns on invested capital."
