10:28 AM EDT, 10/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms (FB2A.F), TikTok and X lost a legal challenge against the UK's Office of Communications, or Ofcom, over the "lawfulness" of information requests issued in February under the country's Online Safety Act. The information notices sought detailed content moderation metrics from the social media companies. In its Friday ruling, London's High Court rejected the companies' claims that the requests were disproportionate. Meta told MT Newswires it was "disappointed" with the court's decision. "[But] we and others across industry pursued this challenge because information-gathering of this scale goes beyond what is necessary or proportionate. We remain committed to working with Ofcom and are reviewing the judgement in full." Meanwhile, TikTok said in an emailed statement that it is considering the decision.
