Why Siltronic Rose Even Though It Swung To A Loss

Listen to the news

If you had picked up Siltronic on 1 January 2026, with headlines already split between AI wafer optimism and warnings about heavy capex, your decision probably did not feel straightforward. Investors who held Siltronic from the start of the year are up 23.5%, including dividends. Early buyers had to weigh bullish talk of Singapore capacity and long AI contracts against falling margins and inventory overhangs. Which of those signals really deserved more weight at the time?

The easy part of this move is behind Siltronic. Zero in on 200 high quality undervalued stocks for companies trading below our estimates.

The Argument You Would Have Been Weighing Up On Siltronic

The shares cost €48.9 at the start of the period, which left you choosing between two very different stories about where Siltronic might be heading.

On the bullish side, one camp saw a Fair Value of €64, a price that would only make sense if strong AI and automotive wafer demand, together with long contracts through 2028 to 2030, supported higher margins and earnings stability.

The more cautious view pointed to a Fair Value of €45.88, based on concerns that heavy FabNext capex, rising net financial debt and ongoing global competition could limit future cash generation and pricing power.

What The Results Put To The Test For Siltronic

The clearest new fact was Siltronic’s Q2 2026 loss. Net income moved from a €11.5m profit in Q2 2025 to a €52.1m loss, while net margin went from 3.5% to 16.2% in the red. Revenue at €321.6m sat slightly below the prior €329.1m. That pattern challenged the bullish profitability story and lent more weight to the cautious case.

The lesson is simple. When a thesis leans on stronger margins, track the reported net margin and net income line each quarter to see whether that story is actually turning into cash.

What Siltronic's Run Has Already Priced In

Siltronic now trades at €63, with the shares up 23.5% from the start of the year. The selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above the current price, framed around how AI driven server wafer demand might reshape the mix.

The argument hinges on FabNext and 300mm utilization turning contract volume into durable earnings. The question for anyone looking at Siltronic today is whether wafer pricing can stay above reinvestment levels as that capacity fills.

"The main factor that has to go right is that 300mm capacity additions and FabNext utilization ramp are matched by sustained wafer pricing above reinvestment levels so that new contracts and tools earn acceptable returns."

Looking Beyond Siltronic’s Wafers

Siltronic puts silicon under the AI spotlight. You could also look sideways, toward another critical layer of the stack.

The same wave of computing hunger still needs somewhere to store and access data quickly, close to where models run.

That is where a different manufacturer comes in. It builds memory chips and storage devices that keep AI systems supplied with working data.

Instead of processing power, this business focuses on bandwidth and capacity. Its products help data centers sustain intense workloads without long idle stretches.

As AI models spread into cars, phones and robots, demand for fast memory and storage could keep widening, even as more suppliers invest.
