Boliden just dropped its Q3 2026 scorecard with record operating profit of SEK 4.9b, yet the stock closed at SEK 499.9 and has barely moved over the past week. The market looks calm. The results are not.
Investors are focusing on a metals producer that just printed one of its most profitable quarters while trading on a P/E of 9.9x and sitting well below a published discounted cash flow value near SEK 943. This appears to be a sentiment mismatch: the mood is cautious, while the earnings profile and valuation signal something very different.

Earnings are one thing, but investors who care about what they are paying for Boliden focus on the cash that actually comes through the business. On Boliden's cash flows alone, the stock could be a striking 47% undervalued.
The optimistic script says higher zinc scale and better smelter performance should start to show up in real earnings power.
"The Odda zinc smelter expansion, which management expects to add about SEK 250 million of annual EBITDA once fully ramped under the market conditions referenced, provides scope for higher processing volumes and earnings contribution from zinc and by products."
Q3 points in that direction. Odda availability moved to about 50% for the quarter and 70% in September, with management calling out materially improved ramp up. That, together with strong sulfuric acid pricing adding about SEK 200m year on year, fed into record SEK 4.9b operating profit and SEK 1.1b free cash flow.
The more cautious view argues that heavier gearing and operational hiccups could blunt the Nexa and copper growth story.
"Execution setbacks on large projects, such as slower than planned ramp up at the Odda roaster due to automation trips and conveyor failures, could delay expected EBITDA contributions from new capacity and leave Boliden carrying higher depreciation and financing costs without the intended uplift in earnings and margins."
Q3 shows this risk is reduced but not gone. Odda issues are described as largely fixed, yet availability is still below the 90% target. Aitik also faced downgraded copper grades due to waste dilution. With Nexa still pending and working capital set to rise in Q4, execution remains a live concern.
