Ranpak Holdings just gave investors a jolt. The stock slid 6.5% to US$3.18 today, extending a rough few months, even as the company posted Q3 2026 revenue of US$101.9 million and another quarter of shrinking losses per share. Traders focused on the red ink. Long term holders are watching something else entirely.
The hinge for this earnings story is margin pressure. Ranpak is still reporting a net loss of US$7.2 million for the quarter, and that ongoing drag keeps the spotlight on how quickly its automation and packaging businesses can scale enough to change the multiyear profit picture.

Automation is turning into Ranpak’s main growth engine even in choppy markets. Ask Charlie what makes Ranpak automation less tied to the economy.
The bullish script hinges on automation and mix lifting profitability rather than just chasing volume.
"Bullish analysts expect Ranpak Holdings to grow automation into a US$100 million plus revenue business while turning it into a consistent EBITDA contributor."
Ranpak is not at that destination, but Q3 does show the path. Automation equipment revenue grew more than 20% and management still targets about US$60 million of automation sales in 2026. Adjusted EBITDA reached US$22.5 million with gross margin 110 basis points higher and SG&A lower. Management also reiterated that automation should break even on adjusted EBITDA in 2026, which starts to align with the profitability leg of that thesis.

Bearish views on Ranpak Holdings hinge on the idea that balance sheet strain and choppy execution keep squeezing the upside from automation and cold chain.
"Although Ranpak Holdings is securing faster growth in automation revenue with expectations for roughly US$60 million of automation sales in 2026 and a funnel into 2027 and 2028, the business still carries net leverage of 4.5x to 4.7x and a stated goal to reach 2.5x to 3.0x over about 24 months."
Q3 confirms that tension. Net leverage still sits above 4x and the stock fell about 6% on the print, which suggests investors want clearer progress toward that 2.5x to 3x target and more than a modest 110 bps gross margin uplift before easing the leverage worry.
Ranpak Holdings just reminded investors that better quarterly numbers do not always translate into quick share price relief. The real opportunity is finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market corrects them.
