The market clipped DT Midstream at the open, with the stock sliding about 2% to roughly US$124 after fresh Q3 2026 numbers. That move fixates on the day. The story stretches much further. Management just lifted full year adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation guidance to a midpoint pointing to about 7% growth and raised distributable cash flow expectations as well. For a regulated style gas infrastructure business, that combination of higher contracted earnings power and a steady US$0.88 per share dividend keeps the multi year cash generation question front and centre.

Bulls argue DT Midstream’s heavier project slate should turn into sturdier cash generation rather than just a bigger capex number.
"Modernization and expansion programs are being pursued alongside a conservative balance sheet, with leverage guided around 2.9x in 2026 and higher downgrade thresholds from credit agencies."
The latest print lines up with that playbook. Adjusted EBITDA guidance moves to a midpoint of about US$1.205b and DCF guidance rises to a range of US$860 to 890m, while year end leverage is expected near 2.8x. Growth capital for 2026 is trimmed, yet committed capital still roughly doubles 2026 EBITDA guidance.
Against that, the bear story focuses on whether this bigger backlog actually earns its keep if demand or permitting softens.
"DT Midstream's substantial capital commitments to pipeline modernization and expansion heighten the risk of stranded assets or underutilization if long term demand for natural gas infrastructure decreases due to accelerated decarbonization efforts, which would pressure future revenues and cash flow."
Recent results do not clear that concern. Q3 adjusted EBITDA is US$301m with Gathering down quarter on quarter, and management flags weaker Northeast volumes, producer curtailments and Stonewall downtime into Q4. The stock slipping about 2% post release suggests investors remain cautious on how fully that enlarged capital plan will earn through cycles.
