Enerflex walked into its Q3 2026 release with the stock at CA$33.05 and a 3.6% gain over the past week, a quiet setup for a company that just reported one of its cleaner profit quarters in years. The headline was simple: net income reached US$55 million, equal to US$0.45 per share, supported by US$623 million of revenue and US$102 million of free cash flow.
Yet the real story sat in the mood, not the math. A market that has been fixated on Enerflex’s rich 40.7x P/E and a prior one off loss now has to square those worries with a balance sheet sitting at roughly US$312 million of net debt and only 0.6x bank adjusted net debt to earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization. The one day reaction looks more like investors trading the label of an expensive stock than weighing a materially lighter debt load and record backlog.

The upbeat view hangs on higher quality, repeatable earnings, not just bigger projects.
"Strategic investments in expanding the high-margin, recurring After-Market Services and Energy Infrastructure businesses, contributing 65% of gross margin, are expected to improve earnings stability and net margins over time as these segments continue to outperform."
Q3 shows Enerflex leaning into that script. Energy Infrastructure and After-Market Services produced about 68% of gross margin before D&A, a clear step toward the mix the narrative targets. Free cash flow of US$102 million and bank adjusted net debt to EBITDA of 0.6x suggest the reinvestment flywheel is working, even with ES capacity capex ramping.
The cautious view worries that business mix and leadership gaps will blunt all that backlog.
"Persistent dependence on traditional natural gas infrastructure and compression, combined with limited discussion on diversification into carbon-neutral solutions or renewable energy technologies, exposes Enerflex to the risk of long-term structural revenue decline if the energy transition accelerates and fossil fuel demand decreases."
Q3 data cuts both ways. Record ES bookings of about US$1.0b and a power backlog above 1.75 GW still lean heavily on natural gas solutions, so the concentration risk is intact. At the same time, the Oman produced water projects, portfolio exit from most Asia Pacific operations and new independent directors show Enerflex reshaping its footprint, though not yet into low carbon technologies.
