Baker Hughes (BKR) Q3 Results Highlight Cash Flow And Debt Risk
Share
Listen to the news

Baker Hughes stock edged 1.3% higher to US$55.23 by Friday's close, a modest move for what was a heavy quarter on headlines. Q3 2026 brought US$8.0b in revenue and adjusted earnings per share of US$0.70, numbers that came alongside US$769m in free cash flow even after sizeable Chart acquisition costs.

The short term read is simple: traders saw a solid quarter. The longer view rests on what that cash generation and the Chart integration mean for multi year earnings power and a highly leveraged balance sheet.

Evaluating Baker Hughes’ Multi‑Year Growth Claims

Baker Hughes bulls frame the story around orders and backlog turning into steadier earnings, not just a one quarter pop.

"Record IET orders of US$4.9b in the quarter, a 25% rise in IET orders over the last 4 quarters to US$16.6b and an RPO of US$33.1b support multi year revenue visibility and give a foundation for earnings resilience as this backlog converts."

The latest print goes further than that thesis. IET orders landed at US$5.9b with a 1.7x book to bill and record RPO of US$39.4b. Companywide book to bill of 1.3x and US$10.8b of total orders indicate the order book is still building rather than drawing down.

Baker Hughes: Testing Fears On Integration And Margins

Bearish investors worry Baker Hughes is stretching its operating model just as it leans on tighter execution. The concern focuses on whether Chart can be absorbed cleanly while multiple moving parts hit earnings quality.

"The planned acquisition of Chart and rapid portfolio reshaping, including multiple divestitures and an HMH IPO, add integration and execution risk at a time when Baker Hughes is relying on US$325 million of cost synergies and US$3 billion of gross proceeds to support its balance sheet."

Q3 synergies of US$70m against a US$325m target show progress, not completion. One time Chart costs cut into free cash flow, and companywide net income and EPS both declined year on year, so margin uplift from integration is not yet visible.

Hunt For Mispriced Cash Engines

Baker Hughes just showed how a strong cash quarter can be overshadowed by balance sheet concerns. The real opportunity could sit in stocks where fundamentals appear stronger than prevailing market conviction.

  • Company 1 - 38% below our estimate - target higher margin window film and installation services as manufacturing capacity reshapes its supply chain.
  • Company 2 - 35% below our estimate - sell the GPU and software stack many data center customers now treat as a default AI platform.
  • Company 3 - 34% below our estimate - turn long term optical and solar supply agreements into higher value infrastructure components for energy and data networks.
