Republic Services (RSG) Stock Climbs After Q3 Earnings Back Steady Growth
Share
Listen to the news

Republic Services came into this Q3 2026 earnings release with its stock already on a strong run, up solidly over the past month and quarter. Then the fresh numbers hit and the market pushed the shares another 3.3% higher to US$244.14 in Friday trading. The headline is simple: a steady trash and recycling operator reported higher quarterly revenue of US$4.559b and net income of US$592m, while the Environmental Solutions arm kept adding profitable scale. The story now is whether that earnings trend justifies a rich P/E that already reflects a high level of confidence.

Republic Services’ Upside Story Meets Early Milestones

Republic Services has pitched digital tools and sustainability projects as a new earnings engine. The target is clear enough to measure.

"Republic Services is advancing in digital and AI based capabilities, with pricing and routing through the RISE platform and customer service tools expected to deliver at least US$100 million of annual benefit by 2028, which could support higher margins and earnings power if the targeted efficiencies materialise."

Pricing strength in Q3, with core price on related revenue at 6.3%, aligns with that ambition. AI pricing is already in use, routing pilots are live, and management kept the US$100m 2028 EBITDA goal. Company margin held at 31.8% despite fuel and healthcare headwinds.

Testing The Republic Services Risk Narrative

The bear story questions whether heavy spending on new platforms and projects really translates into better profitability and cash generation.

"The key execution risk is whether Republic Services can convert its substantial investment in digital platforms, sustainability projects, Environmental Solutions, and acquisitions into sustained margin improvement and incremental free cash flow despite soft volumes, contract losses, and labor risks."

Q3 gives mixed but mostly supportive evidence. Adjusted EBITDA margin of 31.8% absorbed fuel, healthcare and prior landfill volume drags, while Environmental Solutions lifted both growth and margins. Free cash flow of US$2.28b year to date and a new US$5b buyback suggest the investment cycle is funding, not crowding out, cash returns so far.

Hunt For Underappreciated Cash Engines

Republic Services just showed how a steady operator can still move the share price. The real opportunity sits in stocks that could be undervalued before the market fully closes the gap.

  • Company 1 - 29% below our estimate - uses a low-cost digital banking model to lift revenue per customer and open new markets.
  • Company 2 - 48% below our estimate - co-designs complex hardware with clients, evolving from contract assembler into a design partner in long product cycles.
  • Company 3 - 38% below our estimate - builds protective films and software while directing capital into manufacturing and higher margin service channels across regions.

Those are three of them. See the full list of 29 companies trading below our fair value estimates →
