SkyWest came into this earnings day wearing the label of a low P/E regional airline that many investors viewed as a steady compounder, yet the stock dropped about 15% to around US$82 by the close. That sharp move jars with the headline print. For Q3 2026, SkyWest delivered roughly US$1.1b in revenue and about US$3.10 in basic earnings per share, solid profitability for a regional carrier model built on tight contracts and fleet discipline.
The expectation gap is about margins. Management discussed strong completion rates and solid cash generation, while the market traded as if those earnings are more fragile than the long term thesis suggests.

Management says a $1 fuel move can swing 2027 EPS by $1.20. Ask Charlie what SkyWest’s fuel math means for 2027 EPS.
For the bullish view on SkyWest, the thesis leans heavily on contracted flying, a better mix of jets, and improving financial flexibility.
"SkyWest's ability to extend major capacity purchase agreements so that no E175 contracts expire until the second half of 2028, combined with flexibility to allocate E175 deliveries and converted CRJ jets across multiple partners, gives the company a multi-year runway of contracted flying that can support revenue stability and earnings visibility."
Q3 revenue of US$1.1b, strong completion at 99.9%, over US$700m year to date EBITDA, and ongoing debt reduction with US$1.5b of unpledged assets all point to that contract heavy model working as intended so far, even with fuel and training costs pressuring EPS guidance.
The bear side focuses on fuel exposed flying and whether those routes quietly chip away at margins and earnings quality.
"Persistent increases in jet fuel prices are already pressuring the roughly 10% of SkyWest flying that is on a prorate basis, with prorate fuel expense in Q2 2026 at US$61 million compared with US$28 million a year earlier and price per gallon at US$4.45 instead of US$2.88."
Q3 data reinforces that concern. Prorate and charter revenue reached US$218m, yet prorate fuel climbed to US$66m at US$4.56 per gallon, and management trimmed 2026 GAAP EPS color to about US$10.60 while flagging that a US$1 move in 2027 fuel could shift EPS by roughly US$1.20, so fuel sensitive flying is clearly biting into the story.
