Telesat (NasdaqGS:TSAT) Stock Price Faces Q3 Results Funding Questions
Share
Listen to the news

Telesat entered Q3 2026 earnings on a bruising streak, with the stock already down over 13% in the past month and another 5.7% drop on the day of the release. The market is treating this like another satellite dream soaked in red ink. The headline result tells a different story. Revenue held around $80.6m while the quarterly loss narrowed to $47m, a sharp improvement from the $165.8m loss in Q2. For a company pouring cash into a low Earth orbit buildout, the real shock this quarter is not the loss. It is how quickly that loss compressed.

Like the compression in Telesat’s loss but worried about the heavy buildout costs and execution risk around capital intensive projects? Check out our list of stocks that combine meaningful investment programs with stronger balance sheets and clearer cash generation profiles in the list of solid balance sheet and fundamentals stocks (25 results).

Telesat bullish story meets mixed signals

Telesat bulls point to a pivot toward Lightspeed and government connectivity. The latest quarter gives them some support. Revenue held near C$80.6m while the quarterly loss compressed sharply versus Q2, and guidance for 2026 GEO revenue and GEO adjusted EBITDA stayed intact. A C$2.3b to C$2.7b Canadian defense agreement and a C$5.6b Lightspeed backlog indicate real demand for secure LEO capacity. For investors focused on contracts and execution milestones rather than short term earnings, those numbers keep the long term connectivity pitch alive.

Bearish funding and execution worries stay alive

The bear case does not disappear. Telesat still reported a C$47m loss this quarter and a much larger trailing 12 month loss per share, while GEO revenue declined 21% year on year with utilization around 59%. Lightspeed is absorbing heavy cash, with C$705m spent year to date and full year outlays of C$1.1b to C$1.3b expected. Management is also working on refinancing GEO debt ahead of 2026 maturities. A modest schedule slip for global Lightspeed service adds another reminder that execution and funding risk remain central to the story.

After another quarter of heavy Lightspeed spending, shifting GEO economics and a share price that just fell 5.7%, it is fair to ask whether these pressures are contained or pointing to deeper structural issues. Scan the independent risk analysis for Telesat which shows 3 important warning signs

Hunt For Mispriced Execution Stories

Telesat highlights how complex execution risk can distort perceptions of business progress. The real opportunity could sit in companies where fundamentals and valuation have quietly moved apart.

  • Company 1 - 46% below our estimate - turns a near record construction backlog and nine mega-projects into a test of whether disputed legacy contracts stop consuming new cash.
  • Company 2 - 38% below our estimate - scales a device recommerce platform as trade-in subsidies and shifting consumer preferences push more used phones into structured resale channels.
  • Company 3 - 31% below our estimate - builds AI superclusters that support demanding model workloads needing huge compute and multi-cloud redundancy.
