West Bancorporation just posted Q3 2026 results that look cleaner than the share price suggests. The stock slipped 0.4% on the day and is roughly flat over the past week. Earnings per share landed at about US$0.68 and quarterly net income came in near US$11.6 million. For a regional bank, that profit level alongside a reported net margin near 38% over the last year points to a calm, profitable core business, while traders reacted as if very little changed.

Earnings only tell part of the story, and investors who care about what they are paying for often focus on the cash being generated underneath those Q3 2026 profit figures. Looking at West Bancorporation's cash flows in isolation, the stock could be a solid 28% undervalued.
Optimists argue that West Bancorporation can turn clean credit, repricing and Minnesota relationship wins into durable earnings power.
"The main thing that has to go right is that West Bancorporation maintains its currently pristine credit quality and strong core deposit base, while converting its Minnesota and commercial pipelines into sustained on balance sheet loan growth as payoff activity gradually eases."
Q3 delivered exactly the kind of credit profile this narrative assumes. No past dues, no nonaccruals, no OREO and no provision support the first leg. The second leg, pipeline conversion, is only partially there. Loans grew 1.5% quarter on quarter and management calls Q4 pipelines robust, but elevated payoffs are still capping the headline balance.
Skeptics focus on payoffs and expensive funding as the choke points on West Bancorporation's earnings story.
"The earlier concern that loan balances might keep declining due to payoffs remains live, and is now reinforced by more than $200m of developed properties being sold or moved to nonrecourse financing in the first half of 2026 and over $50m of medical office building payoffs in late 2025, which could keep West Bancorporation’s period end loan book flat or smaller and limit growth in interest income and earnings."
Q3 results push back on the most bearish version of this view. Loans finally grew sequentially and only about US$30m of known payoffs sit between here and year end, well below earlier levels. Net interest margin still improved even as deposit competition tightened, which suggests repricing benefits are cushioning funding pressure so far.
