Reddit stock just took a hit, closing at US$91.73 after a single day drop of about 29% that wiped out weeks of gains. Traders focused on the shock. The business story looks very different.
For Q3 2026, Reddit delivered about US$895 million in revenue and a net income margin of roughly 32%, with adjusted EBITDA margin around 45%. Those are heavyweight profitability numbers for an online platform. The real tension for long term holders now sits between that earnings power and a share price that has pulled sharply away from a trailing P/E of 17.8x and a much higher discounted cash flow value.

Bulls argue Reddit’s product roadmap can materially lift engagement and ad dollars. The clearest claim sits around AI driven search and usage.
"current metrics, such as 70 million weekly search users and a fivefold quarterly increase in Reddit Answers usage, indicate that Reddit's strategic move to unify human-verified conversational search could rapidly cement Reddit as the default trusted consumer internet search platform, dramatically increasing engagement, retention, and monetization per user well beyond baseline estimates."
Q3 results back up the monetization part of that story. ARPU rose 36% year on year to US$6.87, ad revenue reached US$847 million, and conversion volume grew more than 3x, showing that search and ad tooling are already driving higher value per active user.

Bearish investors have focused on traffic fragility and the risk that Reddit’s logged in push cannot fully replace search driven discovery.
"As Reddit reduces its reliance on search driven traffic and pushes more usage into the app, the combination of choppy Google referrals and a recent sequential decline in U.S. DAUs suggests that the shift toward direct usage may not fully offset lost SEO exposure. This could limit impression growth and in turn constrain revenue and earnings momentum."
Q3 results largely validate that concern. DAUs rose only 12% to 130.3m and missed expectations, management flagged sharp Google referral declines, guided Q4 revenue below consensus, and the stock fell about 29% on the print despite strong margins and ARPU gains.
Reddit shows how strong margins can still face sudden shifts in expectations. The real opportunity is studying stocks that could be undervalued before the market reacts.
