Gates Industrial just took a hit. The stock closed at US$23.83, down about 9% from the prior US$26.25 finish, as traders reacted to fresh Q3 2026 numbers.
That share price move looks harsh next to what the business actually reported. Q3 revenue came in around US$904m and adjusted earnings per share reached a record US$0.47, driven by a record 23.8% adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization margin. Short-term sentiment is clearly rattled, while the multi-year story on profitability and valuation now becomes the real question for longer-term holders.

Earnings only tell part of the story, and investors who care about what they are paying for Gates Industrial tend to focus on the cash flowing through the business over time. On those cash flows alone, Gates Industrial's stock could be a solid 28% undervalued.
Gates Industrial’s bullish story leans heavily on new growth engines doing more of the heavy lifting.
"The main condition is that Gates Industrial continues to execute on secular growth platforms such as personal mobility and data center liquid cooling while sustaining high aftermarket resilience and targeted margin expansion."
Q3 results show that idea is partly tracking. Personal mobility in Power Transmission grew about 40%, while data center revenue in Fluid Power was about 2.5x higher and required heavier spending. Record 23.8% adjusted EBITDA margin and a guidance raise on full year adjusted EPS indicate that margin initiatives are holding, even with that reinvestment.
The bear story focuses on whether these newer channels stay too small versus older end markets.
"Gates Industrial revenues remain heavily weighted to traditional automotive and industrial OEM channels that are flat or declining. Commentary highlights near term headwinds from weak auto production and the ICE to EV transition. If newer areas such as personal mobility and data centers remain small relative to this base, overall revenue and earnings growth could stay muted."
Q3 shows both sides of that concern. Traditional industrial OEM demand improved, with North America OEM up more than 20%, which helps offset earlier weakness. At the same time, management still describes personal mobility and data centers as growth verticals rather than primary revenue sources, so the mix shift investors are looking for is not yet visible in reported totals.
