What Saab Holders Saw Early
Share
Listen to the news

Saab’s year was defined in headlines by concrete hardware, not buzzwords. The clearest example was Poland’s A26 submarine order, a multi decade program that pushed the group’s order backlog to a record level and showed how willing governments were to commit serious money to its kit. For Saab shareholders, the return over the past year was 29.3%, including dividends. If you were deciding whether to buy on 30 October 2025, how confident would you need to be that contracts like that Polish deal were coming?

The useful thing about a Narrative is that the reasoning is checkable: the assumptions sit beside the argument, and together they imply an estimated Fair Value you can disagree with.

The Two Saab Stories Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost SEK511 at the start of the period, which left you choosing between two very different stories about where Saab might go next.

On the bullish side, one camp saw Fair Value at SEK565, 11% above the start price. That view leaned on Saab using advanced AI and automation to support revenue growing 17.8% a year and profit margins rising from 7.4% to 8.8% by 2028.

The more cautious narrative put Fair Value at SEK467, 9% below the start price. This group still assumed revenue growth of 16.4% and an 8.4% margin, but focused on dependence on government budgets and the risk that heavy upfront investment might strain cash flow if large orders slipped.

What The Evidence Did To The Saab Argument

Saab then landed exactly the kind of hardware orders the bullish story relied on. The Polish A26 contract fed into a record $33b backlog, while Gripen deals with Ukraine and GlobalEye wins with NATO and Canada added long dated work. Q3 2026 results showed revenue and net income higher, with net margin at 6.8%. The evidence cut both ways because heavy investment and backlog timing still sit at the centre of the cautious view.

The clear hinge here was not sentiment, but whether large defence wins actually turned into higher sales and firmer profitability. When you test another contractor, start with the order book and margin line, then watch if new multi year contracts show up as higher revenue and a more resilient net margin over time.

What Saab’s Run Up To SEK675 Already Assumes

Saab now trades at SEK675, and the selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits below that level. The argument accepts strong defence demand but questions whether current production and delivery capacity can comfortably support what the share price already implies.

A buyer today is effectively assuming booked projects translate cleanly into output and earnings. This raises the question of how that assumption aligns with the risk that fulfilment capacity could lag those orders.

"Following current development, the stock price and valuation increased much faster than expected. Orders and sales no issue, but the capacity of production and delivery can no longer justify this level."

Looking Past Saab To Space

Saab points you to governments willing to fund complex hardware for years. You could stop there. You do not have to.

Step one away and the question shifts. Who builds the launch platforms and on orbit hardware that other sectors then rely on?

One specialist is trying to cover that whole backbone, from rockets to in space systems. The aim is to keep access to orbit frequent, predictable and relatively low cost.

If that effort works, a range of services could lean on it. Your task is deciding how much of that potential actually feels usable today.
